Product Function

The crankshaft position sensor monitors the position and rotational speed of the crankshaft.

This information is supplied to the engine control system and is used for functions including ignition timing and fuel injection control.

A faulty crankshaft position sensor may contribute to symptoms such as:

• Engine not starting

• Intermittent starting

• Engine cutting out

• Misfiring

• Irregular running

• Loss of ignition or injection signal

These symptoms can also be caused by other electrical, ignition or fuel-system faults, so correct diagnosis is recommended before replacing the sensor.

Mercury used different sensors depending on engine family, horsepower and serial number.
