What Does 10.3 x 12 Mean?

10.3" Diameter

The first number represents the approximate diameter of the propeller.

12" Pitch

The second number represents the propeller pitch.

Pitch is one of the factors affecting engine RPM, acceleration and boat performance.

Do not select a propeller based only on engine horsepower.

The correct pitch depends on the engine, boat, load and operating conditions.

Mercury notes that propeller selection involves more than diameter and pitch, with overall propeller geometry and application affecting performance.

Later and different-generation engines can use completely different propeller shaft and hub arrangements.

Check Your Existing Propeller Markings

If you are replacing an existing propeller, check the numbers stamped or cast into the old propeller.

If your existing propeller is:

Important – Propeller Pitch

Changing from one pitch to another can change engine RPM and boat performance.

• 10.3 × 12
• 10.1 × 13

these are not simply interchangeable sizes from a performance perspective.
