Suitable for selected older BLACK Mercury / Quicksilver remote controls

NOT suitable for the later GREY Mercury remote control system

Mercury / Mariner has used different generations and types of remote-control cables.

Please do not order solely because your engine is Mercury or Mariner.

Check your existing cable ends and remote-control system before purchasing.

Choose Your Cable Length

This listing is available in various cable lengths.

Please select your required length before adding the item to your basket.

The length refers to the control cable length, not the length of your boat.

DO NOT CHOOSE THE CABLE LENGTH BY BOAT SIZE

Two similar boats can require completely different cable lengths depending on:

• Position of the remote control
• Engine position
• Cable routing
• Console position
• Existing installation
• Required engine movement loop

Always check the required cable length before ordering.

How to Find Your Correct Cable Length

Method 1 – Check Your Existing Cable

This is the easiest method when replacing old cables.

Look carefully at the outer jacket of your existing control cable, particularly near the engine end.

The cable will often have its:

• Type
• Part/reference number
• Length

printed or stamped onto the outer jacket.

If you can identify the existing cable length, order the corresponding replacement length.

Method 2 – Measure Your Existing Cable

If the markings on the old cable are missing or unreadable:

Remove or access the existing cable and measure it END-TO-END.

Measure the complete cable from one end to the other.

If your measurement falls between available whole-foot sizes:

Round UP to the next whole foot.

Example:

If your existing cable measures approximately 11 ft 5 in, select a:

12 ft cable

Do not select a shorter cable simply because it is closer to the measured length.

Check BOTH Existing Cables

Your boat normally has:

1 × Gear / Shift Cable

and

1 × Throttle Cable

Do not automatically assume both cables are the same length.

Check the markings or measure BOTH existing cables before ordering.

IMPORTANT

This listing supplies:

2 × C5 cables of the SAME selected length.

For example:

If you select 12 ft, you will receive:

2 × 12 ft C5 Control Cables

If your existing gear and throttle cables are different lengths, please contact SSI Marine before ordering this pair.

Measuring for a New Installation

If there are no existing cables to copy, measure the actual cable route carefully.

For an outboard installation:

1. Measure from the remote control along the intended unobstructed cable route towards the engine.
2. Follow the route the cable will actually take – do not simply measure in a straight line.
3. Allow additional cable at the engine for the steering/engine movement loop.
4. Make sure the engine can turn fully from side to side without pulling or sharply bending the cables.
5. Round the final required measurement UP to the next available whole-foot cable length.

Avoid making the cable too short.

A control cable that is too short can restrict engine movement and place unnecessary load on the cable, connections and control mechanism.

Cable Routing

For smooth operation and longer cable life:

• Avoid sharp bends
• Avoid unnecessary loops
• Do not kink the cable
• Keep away from excessive heat
• Keep away from moving components
• Do not clamp the cable so tightly that movement is restricted
• Allow sufficient movement at the outboard

Correct routing is just as important as choosing the correct cable length.

C5 Control Cable Application

They are NOT intended for the later grey Mercury remote-control system using the later cable arrangement.

If you have the later system, please do not order simply because the cable appears similar.
