Which Steering System Do I Need?

LIGHT DUTY – UP TO 55 HP

Choose this version for smaller boats and outboards up to 55 HP.

Uses the Multiflex:

• SC-18 steering cable

• Lite 55 steering helm

• Bezel

• Alpha black steering wheel

Typical SKU format:

SC-18-XXKIT

Where XX = cable length in feet.

Example:

SC-18-12KIT = Light Duty system with 12 ft cable

HEAVY DUTY – UP TO 150 HP

Choose this version for larger / higher horsepower outboards up to 150 HP.

Uses the heavier Multiflex:

• SC-16 steering cable

• Easy Connect steering helm

• 90° bezel

• Alpha black steering wheel

Typical SKU format:

SC-16-XXKIT

Where XX = cable length in feet.

Example:

SC-16-12KIT = Heavy Duty system with 12 ft cable

⚠️ IMPORTANT – CHOOSE THE CORRECT LENGTH

Please measure your steering cable BEFORE ordering.

The cable length is not determined by engine horsepower.

Two boats with the same engine can require completely different cable lengths depending on:

• Boat length

• Position of steering console

• Cable routing

• Transom arrangement

• Engine position

Replacing an Existing Steering Cable

The easiest and safest method is to check your existing steering cable.

Look along the outer casing for the manufacturer / cable reference and length.

For example:

SC-18-12 = 12 ft

or

SC-16-12 = 12 ft

If the markings cannot be found, measure the existing cable carefully before ordering.

Do NOT simply measure the straight-line distance from the steering wheel to the engine.

The cable follows the actual route through the boat and requires sufficient length for bends and engine movement.

LIGHT DUTY AND HEAVY DUTY ARE DIFFERENT SYSTEMS

Light Duty

SC-18 cable – maximum 55 HP

Heavy Duty

SC-16 cable – maximum 150 HP

Please do not choose the system based on price or cable length alone.

Select the system appropriate for your engine horsepower and boat application, then select the correct cable length.
