Important – GEARBOX / GEAR OIL Seals
These seals are for the GEARBOX / LOWER UNIT gear oil drain and fill plugs.
They should not be confused with the engine oil sump / drain plug gasket used on a 4-stroke engine.
When carrying out a full service, the engine oil drain plug and gearbox gear oil drain/fill plugs may use completely different seals.
Recommended Replacement During Gear Oil Service
We recommend inspecting the drain and fill plug seals whenever carrying out a gearbox / lower unit oil change.
Previously used seals can become compressed, damaged or deteriorated.
Replacing the seals during routine servicing helps maintain a reliable seal around the gear oil drain/fill plugs and can help reduce the risk of:
- Gear oil leakage
- Water entering the lower unit
- Contamination of the gearbox oil
Important – Please Check Compatibility
Mercury and Mariner have produced many different outboard and gearcase configurations, and different drain plug seals are used depending on the application.
Before purchasing, please check:
- Engine is Mercury or Mariner
- Exact engine model
- Engine serial number
- Existing drain/fill plug seal
- Original Mercury / Mariner part number
For the safest identification, confirm that your application requires:
26-8M0204693 / 26-830749
If the seal looks the same as yours, this does not always mean it is the correct one for your outboard.
If you are unsure, please send us your engine model and serial number before purchasing and our technical team will be happy to check compatibility.
