Both versions are designed as replacements for the corresponding Mercury anode applications.

FOR 1.7L BLOCK ENGINES ONLY

Suitable for corresponding engines before the change to the later 2.1L engine block.

Serial Number Reference:

Up to approximately 2B094995 – 1.7L application

Later engines using the 2.1L block require a different anode kit.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR ENGINE BEFORE ORDERING.

Do not purchase this kit based solely on horsepower.

If your engine is around the production changeover, we strongly recommend checking the complete engine serial number before ordering.

Marine-grade aluminium-alloy sacrificial anodes are widely used for modern marine corrosion protection and are suitable for a range of marine operating conditions, including salt and brackish water.

Aluminium anodes offer:

• Effective galvanic corrosion protection
• Suitable protection for aluminium outboard components
• Good performance in saltwater
• Good performance in brackish water
• Modern marine alloy construction

Zinc Anode Kit

Select:

Zinc

Zinc is the traditional sacrificial anode material commonly used for saltwater marine applications.

Zinc is a suitable choice where:

• Your existing anodes are zinc
• The other sacrificial anodes fitted to the engine are zinc
• The outboard is predominantly operated in saltwater
• You want to maintain the existing zinc anode system

Which Material Should I Choose?

We recommend keeping the sacrificial anode material consistent across the engine wherever possible.

If your outboard currently uses zinc anodes, choosing the zinc kit maintains the existing material.

If your outboard currently uses aluminium anodes, choose the aluminium kit.

Avoid randomly mixing different sacrificial anode materials across the same protection system.

Why Are Sacrificial Anodes Important?

Sacrificial anodes are designed to corrode preferentially, helping protect expensive underwater components of the outboard against galvanic corrosion.

They help protect components such as:

• Gearcase / lower unit
• Brackets
• Aluminium castings
• Underwater metal components
• Associated fasteners and hardware

Anodes are service items.

They should be inspected regularly and replaced when significantly consumed, damaged or no longer providing adequate protection.

Important – Do Not Paint Your Anodes

Sacrificial anodes should never be painted or coated.

The anode requires direct electrical contact and exposure to the surrounding water to perform correctly.

When fitting new anodes, make sure the relevant mounting/contact surfaces are clean and suitable for proper electrical contact.

Important – Please Check Compatibility

Mercury and Mariner produced different 75 HP–115 HP outboards using different engine blocks and anode arrangements.

Do not order by horsepower alone.

Before purchasing, please confirm:

• Mercury or Mariner
• Engine horsepower
• 4-stroke application
• Engine serial number
• 1.7L engine block
• Existing anode arrangement
• Existing anode part numbers where available
• Required anode material

Later 2.1L engines require a different kit.

If the anodes look the same as yours, this does not always mean they are the correct ones for your outboard.
