There are different Mariner 60 HP engine families and ignition systems.

This CDI is specifically for the corresponding Japanese / Yamaha-based Mariner engine using:

Japanese-Made Mariner Only

During this period, Mariner engines were produced using different engine platforms.

This particular CDI is for the Japanese / Yamaha-based Mariner application.

It should not be assumed to fit a Mercury-manufactured Mariner simply because the horsepower and year appear similar.

The application history for these engines identifies the 48 HP as model family 670, the 55 HP as 663, and the 60 HP with Japanese-origin model families including 675 / 6F0—but, critically, not every 60 HP ignition system uses this particular CDI.

What Does the CDI Unit Do?

The CDI – Capacitor Discharge Ignition – unit is a major component of the outboard's ignition system.

A faulty CDI / power pack can potentially cause symptoms such as:

• No spark
• Intermittent spark
• Loss of spark on one cylinder
• Engine cutting out
• Poor running
• Starting problems

IMPORTANT

These symptoms can also be caused by other electrical or ignition components.

A CDI should not be replaced solely because an engine has no spark.

Correct diagnosis of the ignition system is strongly recommended before purchasing or installing a replacement CDI.

should be checked as appropriate for the engine.
